The  Racquet Readers is a literacy group started by tennis playing high school students designed to benefit the Central Texas Tennis Association (CTTA) and the general Austin area. CTTA provides low cost tennis lessons, tutoring and mentoring to children in and around the Austin area. The inspiration for this effort came to Sujaan Lal, founder, who worked as a CTTA coach over the summer in 2011. Initially he and a group of his friends started collecting books from local book stores, garage sales, and neighborhood/school book drives to provide reading material for kids attending CTTA summer camps. 

As the program grew, the Racquet Readers began setting up mentoring sites of their own partnering with local recreational centers. The group along with many high school volunteers would spend time with the kids at these centers, reading and mentoring to them every week. 

Tennis can teach us many lessons that apply to situations both of and on the court. This group is a representation of our desire to share those experiences with other kids and to spread the love of reading.
